I was also caught off guard by the award, but then realized I was somewhat naive as to the purpose of the prize. That is, that it goes to the one who has contributed most to world peace in the last 12 months - not a "lifetime achievement award" like I had originally thought. Well, I honestly can't think of anyone who has done more in the last year than Obama. When one man can single-handedly take the last remaining superpower from despised to tolerated in less than a year, I think congrats might be in order.

I don't agree. Subduing the "Anti-Christ" (your term) is always a major victory for peace. Dogmatic and authoritarian, with ruthless imperial ambition and access to the power to carry it out, the Republican Party became the most dangerous political entity on the planet. Obama took it on (McCain would have continued the Bush Regime policies) and his election brought me and a lot of other folks more peace of mind than any other event of the last year. Not total peace of mind, certainly (continuing the war in Afghanistan will be a foolish, tragic endeavor) but a lot more peace of mind. And I appreciate it.

The Nobel prize is supposed to be awarded on merit, not because the opposing side is the Anti-Christ.

O did not deserve this by any stretch of the imagination.

If the Repugnican bastards are enraged about the award, that's a premier sign that it was justly bestowed. When were they ever right about anything? Obama may not have reached some of his goals for peace yet, but he's on the right path.

Especially considering our last Commander-in-Chief went around casually talking about World War Three and such. Obama definitely deserves the award.
