God and Mammon Again

I don’t know if there are any Christians supporting Trump who read any of what I write. But in case there are, I would like at least one of them to answer this question: Trump has said many times that he loves money. In the Bible it says you cannot love both God and Mammon (Mammon means money) for you will inevitably hate one and love the other. So how can it possibly follow that, as many evangelical types assert, that Trump is God’s man?

Mammon is actually greed more than just money. I think christianists, which is what Andrew Sullivan calls much of today’s so-called Christians, have made greed into a virtue and a sign of God’s favor when someone is rich. It’s not just about Trump but about a whole view toward the .1%

Up is down. Good is bad. Total nonsense. (I know the above is not your point of view.)

Mark, I have extreme evangelical relatives who vehemently support Trump and I was terribly confused too but it’s simple really. It is Trump’s appointed destiny to bring on the apocalypse allowing the true believers willll be raptured. This is called dispensational pre-millennialist. Never mind that the evangelical in their fervor have actually elected an antichrist. Nothing will move them away from the end times prophecies.

I know this stuff. I just want one of them to make the assertion.

Ok, then you knew the answer. No easy out on this one. The sickness is at the core. I misread your post and maybe that’s what you were suggesting.

All I was saying was that I want to hear it from one of them. But I appreciated your clarity on the matter.

Yes, it’s not my view, Mark. I remember when the wealthy were praised by what they donated like libraries or museums. Now it’s how fancy their homes are. I find ostentatious displays of wealth to be crass and classless… i.e. gold on everything. Ick
